White Stag was founded in Portland, Oregon in 1906 as a manufacturer of tents and sails. It was originally called the Willamette Tent and Awning Company. This name was changed to Hirsch-Weiss Canvas Products, and the company began making rain-proof coats and other outdoor wear.
In 1929, they developed a line of clothing for skiers, using the name White Stag. Even though skiing was a relatively new sport in the US, the brand was successful. By the late 1940s, they were producing other sportswear as well. White Stag is still made today, but the company is no longer located in Portland.
